Lorenzo Vega is a Filipino entrepreneur and inventor best known for Siklesa, a modern re-imagining of the classic kalesa. His work blends heritage with forward-looking engineering, aiming to push Filipino design and innovation onto the global stage.
Inspired by a family memory of a kalesa powered by a motorcycle engine, Vega set out to honor tradition while embracing modern technology. That spark evolved into Siklesa—a project that keeps the iconic silhouette and social experience of the carriage while updating everything under the hood.
Siklesa began with motorcycle-based prototypes and has progressed toward a fully electric platform. Seating up to eight, the design focuses on practicality, beauty, and cultural resonance. Vega’s goal is not to replace existing icons like the jeepney or kalesa, but to introduce a new Filipino symbol of mobility and craft.
With no blueprint to follow, Vega relied on persistence, dozens of cold calls, and close collaboration—crediting early believers such as Architect Jaime Recto. He is candid about the hardest part: helping people see a vision that initially seems improbable.
Lorenzo Vega continues to develop projects at the intersection of culture, mobility, and sustainability—showcasing Filipino ingenuity on the world stage.
